105 Stadium Rimini

By vera, December 30, 2009 5:39 pm
Rimini seems to be a city in which events are taking place all over the year. The major ones often take place in the 105 Stadium (Piazzale Pasolini 1/c) which hosts shows, sports and conventions for up to 7000 persons. Upcoming shows are for example”Holiday on Ice” which will take place from 14 to 17 January 2010. If you are a fan of musical your can enjoy “Grease”  also in January and an Italian version of “Cats” in March.

Today Rimini is a popular sea side resort. But what about the history of the city? What happened before all the visitors came?
If we take a look back in history to the year 1295, we can find the family of the House of Malatesta which ruled in Rimini up to 1500. Still today we can see historical traces of this family scattered over the old town. If you want to follow the footsteps of this family while strolling thourgh the old tow of Rimini you can click here. You will find various itineries in English that will guide you along the most important monumentens and traces the Malatesta family left in Rimini.

PS: Be attentive of the elephants sculptures and pictures… they seem to be everywhere.

Biking in Rimini

By vera, December 21, 2009 8:14 pm

When I went to Rimini one month ago, I was very surprised how many bikers I could see both in the old town and along the seaside. After I came back I did some research and found out that the city provides several cycling routes which allow nice bike-rides through Rimini and the Emilia-Romagna region. Actually, you can find about 30 km of bike paths within Rimini and the Marina di Rimini. In case you want to do sporty activities during your holiday, this is an optimal way to connect sight-seeing with sports.

The following link of the tourist office provides several tours- you can choose for example between a “panoramic tour” or the “cuckold´s tour”. Please click here.

Summer and winter in Rimini

By vera, December 17, 2009 10:51 am

If you are planning a trip to Rimini for the next summer you can expect temperatures from 25 to 28 degrees. If you prefer to travel when the temperature is a little lower I can recommend to go in the first September week. I once went in that time to Rimini and it was warm enough to enjoy the beach and long nights out.
If you are going to Rimini in the current period, the average temperature shouldn´t drop under 0 degrees. Unfortunately, these days the cold has also reached the Emilia-Romagna region as the temperature in the last days was around -1 degree. Brrr….

Italy is a popular touristic destination. The variation of attractive cities, the sunny weather and the great Italian food make the country also ideal for backpacking. If you want to make a stop at the Adriatic Sea to enjoy some party and beach life, Rimini is offering besides more than 1000 hotels also a bunch of backpacking hostels. When I checked their offer I was surprised of the services they provide for example WiFi, bikes for rent and guest kitchen for free. I think to stay in a hostel is a great opportunity to meet other people from all over the world and enjoy a great time in Rimini.

Different countries have different Christmas traditions- one of them is the design of the nativity scene. Are you curious how other cultures design it? How it is different from your own tradition? An exhibition in Rimini currently shows numerous representations of the Holy Nativity from different countries such as Peru, Moldavia and various countries from Africa etc.
It is organized by Caritas and migrants of Rimini and tourists are very welcome to see the exhibiton for free until 6 January 2010 in “Palazzo del Podesta” at Piazza Cavour. The opening hours are during the week from 9.30 until 12.30 and from 15.30 until 19.00. Whereas on the weekends the exhibiton is open from 15.00 until 19.00. “No Panic Gallery” in Rimini

By vera, December 3, 2009 3:50 pm

Strolling through the streets of Rimini´s old town you will pass a lot of small shops, restaurants and… some art galleries. One of these small art galleries is entitled the “No panic gallery” which is situated in Via Bertola 82 about 5 minutes by foot from the Cathedral (Duomo). It was opened in 2007 by Chico De Luigi who is a famous photographer for Italian and other European magazines. To see the collection of photographs which includes some snapshots of Rimini please click here.

For me opera is part of the Italian culture and history. While travelling in Italy, seeing an opera can be a great experience. If you want to start the new year with an opera, you should go to Rimini as it is the only city in Italy performing an opera at that time.

On the programme for 2010 is “Tosca”, the famous opera by Giacomo Puccini. It will take place on 1st and 3rd January 2010. As the show is in Italian, I think it is helpful to get familiar with the plot in advance. Click here for a plot summary in English.
