I knew before coming to Rimini, that the city is well known for its events and festivals. Rimini attracts ever-increasing interest from tourists around the globe to visit the city with its particular food and drinks, sport events, as well as concerts. In fact, during my Easter break, I was able to attend Rimini’ international frisbee contest - Paganello World Beach Ultimate Cup. Never been to the sport event of this kind, and unexpectedly it was amazing- great sun, some wind and nice Easter’ mood!
And here are the winners:
open champions: Los Tiger (USA), spirit: Ghosts Missing (Germany)
women’s champions: Super Hot Pot (International), spirit: Copenhagen (Denmark)
mixed champions: ÄssäMix (Finland), spirit: The Clan (UK)
juniors Bollywood Swing Kings (Belgium), spirit: Mighty Hucks (UK)
Could be great to come back to Rimini next year, and become the frisbee fan again.
When I went to Rimini one month ago, I was very surprised how many bikers I could see both in the old town and along the seaside. After I came back I did some research and found out that the city provides several cycling routes which allow nice bike-rides through Rimini and the Emilia-Romagna region. Actually, you can find about 30 km of bike paths within Rimini and the Marina di Rimini. In case you want to do sporty activities during your holiday, this is an optimal way to connect sight-seeing with sports.
The following link of the tourist office provides several tours- you can choose for example between a “panoramic tour” or the “cuckold´s tour”. Please click here.
This summer I’ve been touring Italy for two weeks, and after visiting Rimini , my next stop was Venice, where I spent a day visiting around the city and taking pictures. I have to say that if you plan a one-day trip around the city of Rimini, Venice can be a wonderful choice, but it will also an exhausting experience. Venice is arguably the one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world, and for good reason. Its an enchanting city that can only be experienced live and in person. Its also one of those places that can be quite exhausting to see, so a one day excursion and back to the charm and relaxation in Rimini can be a great idea.
I advise you to take the train from Rimini Centrale - the trip will take between 3.5 h and 4h - depending upon the trains you take. Be careful to choose trains that do not require a change at Bologna, and if you can’t find any direct ones, make sure you allow yourself enough time to make the connection. Also, the price of the ticket can variate. I have paid 20 euros for a return ticket.
If you can wake up in the morning and leave Rimini at 7.00 am , you will be in Venice at 11.00 am and have enough time to travel around the city and get back by the evening.
I guess all of you who are interested in Rimini as a holiday destination or have already visited the city as a tourist, know about “Italia in Miniatura”. But did you know that the miniature theme park, which gives you the opportunity to explore Italy’s most famous sights in only one day, is opened during the Christmas holidays as well? Except for Christmas Day (25 December) the park is opened from 9am to dust around 4.30pm. The entrance fee in winter is reduced since the special attractions are closed. Nevertheless the park is worth a visit and can be reached easily, coming from Rimini, with the bus number eight or by car.

For me opera is part of the Italian culture and history. While travelling in Italy, seeing an opera can be a great experience. If you want to start the new year with an opera, you should go to Rimini as it is the only city in Italy performing an opera at that time.
On the programme for 2010 is “Tosca”, the famous opera by Giacomo Puccini. It will take place on 1st and 3rd January 2010. As the show is in Italian, I think it is helpful to get familiar with the plot in advance. Click here for a plot summary in English.

Rimini is a great city to visit, but on any trip to Italy, nobody should miss out on the appeal of some of the beautiful small towns and villages that are unique to Italy. If you’re in the area of Rimini, San Leo is really one of those excursions that the cultural tourist is not going to want to miss.
San Leo is situated just about 32 km outside of Rimini, or maybe 30 mins with car. It is within in the Province of Rimini, and was named as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages by “I Borghi piu’ belli d’Italia”, an organization dedicated to the discovery of Italy’s top small towns and villages. The picturesque and historical town is at the foot of the 600 foot standing Fortress of San Leo, which dates back to before the 1400’s, and was even used in the film “Hudson Hawk” with Bruce Willis. In the fortress there is a great view of the surrounding area, the local river, mountains, forests and there is also several museum, a Romanesque Parish Church. The town has its own specialties to eat such as rabbit with wild fennel and tortelloni di San Leo along with their own local products of wines and honeys of the area.
To get there, I suggest taking the bus that is available only in summertime, but driving is likely your best option. Tts only a 2hour bike ride from Rimini, if you want to bike and stay there overnight that could be a fun idea too. More transport and museum information is available by clicking here.

Rimini is a busy city. Especially in the months of summer I think it is even a little stressful, especially for families. Looking for an alternative to the hotels in the city, I found some interesting offers of agrotourism in the region of Rimini. In general, agrotourism is a holiday experience in the rural area on a farm (what doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy the city life )
One example I would like to share with you is the “Papaveri e Papere” which is situated about 35 km from Rimini and about 5 km from the seaside. It offers besides holiday apartments even a swimming pool. For further information please click here. The website is written in English, German, French and Italian.
So if you look for an alternative to a city hotel and a more sustainable form of vacation, this could be the right thing. For an overview of more agrotourism offers you can check the following links. Agrotourism Emilia Romagna Agriturismi
Diving into a fantastic under water world without getting wet, doesn´t that sound great? It is possible in the Delphinarium in Rimini. Besides observing the dolphin family of 6 (which belongs to the species of “Tursiops truncatus”) you can also visit the Sea Gallery which provides an interesting overview of the various marine landscapes that exist worldwide.
Going to the Delphinarium you shouldn´t miss to see one of the shows which take place several times a day. In the summer season the last shows run until late in the evening (last show starting at 22.30). Unfortunately for the moment the theme park is closed but it opens its doors again for visitors after Easter 2010. But, its never to think ahead to book a flight early at least not with the great rates they have these days, right?
